Im actually on board with firing holgorface after the game today. Even if he ends up winning. And whatever it costs. And even if we dont replace him. I hate him.

I'm so tired of hearing these announcers talk about the quality play of Baylor's defense. They aren't good, our offense just sucks dick.

Two first and goals and we get 3 points out of it. We're pretty much the same team as last year but our quarterback has worse hair and worse arm.

Do we have more talent (or quality depth) than 2011?
QB Geno Smith Paul Millard Coley White
RBs Shawne Alston Dustin Garrison Andrew Buie Ryan Clarke Cody Clay Vernard Roberts
WR/Slot/TE
Tavon Austin Stedman Bailey Ivan McCartney Brad Starks Tyler Urban J.D. Woods Ryan Nehlen Willie Millhouse Devon Brown K.Y. Myers Conner Arlia
O-line
Don Barclay Joe Madsen Josh Jenkins Jeff Braun Pat Eger Quinton Spain Marquis Lucas Curtis Feigt John Bassler Russell Haughton-James Nick Kindler Cole Bowers Tyler Rader
Defense:
D-line
Bruce Irvin Julian Miller Will Clarke Shaq Rowell Jorge Wright Kyle Rose Josh Taylor Trevor Demko
Line backers
Najeeh Goode Jerome Snow Doug Rigg Isaiah Bruce Wes Tonkery Nick Kwiatkoski Jared Barber Josh Francis Shaq Petteway Tyler Anderson
DBS
Keith Tandy Darwin Cook Eain Smith Terence Garvin Pat Miller Ishmael Banks Brodrick Jenkins Travis Bell Terrell Chestnut
Where are we more talented now? Where do you actually see evidence of better depth? Who do you think would win a hypothetical game between the 2015 Mountasineers and the 2011 version.
In fact who do you think would win a hypothetical game between this team and any team WVU fielded in the 12 years before Holgorsen took over? If we played a 12 game schedule against the 1999-2010 teams could we win more than 2 or 3?

I would say we're clearly better and deeper at LB and probably better at RB. DB is close but I'd probably five the edge to the 2015 team. O-Line is a wash but I don't pay attention enough to really know. I think QB, WR/TE, and DL are clearly advantage 2011. That team did win 10 games and a BCS bowl so that's not a total indictment of this team's talent level. Holgorsen isn't good enough of a coach to get inferior talent to over-achieve but his biggest problem is that he can't recruit/develop quarterbacks. Both those things may justify his dismissal but I don't think we're that far off.

This season is so weird because we played 3 really shitty teams followed by 3 really good teams. Right now, the only loss I'm actually pissed about is OSU. I feel like the outcomes to the first three wins and the Baylor and OU games were appropriate.

2015 QBs are clearly far behind 2011 overall, but fiven the head case Geno became after letting the wind mess him up in 2012 and fiven that his levels of asshattery are only increasing as a professional it's possible to look back and call 2011 a flash in the pan.
Tavon and Stedman make any set of receivers look good, but the fall off behind them that year is significant. I think, while it's incredibly hard for us to create another pair of draft picks in the same draft at the same position, that our overall collection of receivers this year is more balanced than 2011.

All three of our starting LBs were on the 2011 roster (2 redshirted)and recruited without involvement by Holgthorpe. It's possible someone Holgthorpe is recruited might someday show he is equal to those he inherited but that's just talk (as is most everything about both the weakness of the roster he inherited and the strength of the current roster). Muldrow and Benton play a little but neither has excelled in any way and no one else plays meaningful snaps. We had 6 guys playing a good bit at LB in 2011.
At RB, I'd say Smallwood is better than anyone on the 2011 roster, but depth is clearly no better. We heard Holgthorpe say, after OSU, he had to play Crest at RB some because we only have 2 guys and we can't play them at the same time.
At DB, I'd agree it's close to a wash. Tandy was probably the best of all the corners and Joseph the best of all the safeties.
The OL was easily better and deeper in 2011; it wasn't great by any means, but better than this.
Overall, I'd agree that except for QB and WR, there is not a huge difference in talent or depth. My points are: that the excuse that Holgthorpe inherited a team lacking talent and depth has always been BS; and the claim he has been recruiting better is also utter BS.
Personally, I have little doubt the 2011 team could beat this team 8-9 times out of 10. I will say if you switch the QBs and receivers that might close to reverse.

It's probably unfair to judge the WRs this year. Tavon and even Bailey who had a knack for making extremely tough catches probably couldn't excel with Howard throwing. Gibby and Durante are fast and might be really good if we ever get a QB. the rest really haven't shown anything but, to be fair, haven't had a fair shot to show much.
I was pretty impressed that Sills was able to make a major contribution so quickly after changing positions. He's tall and looked to have good hands. That's probably more valuable than being fast with Howard chucking it.

And, that's not necessarily even his worst decision. 1 year of a lawyer versus 4 of DeForest is a pretty close call.
Maybe the most revealing thing about the Holgorsen era is that some people were actually quite happy when Gibby was made DC -- and that he is far from the worst DC we've had.
That said, I never got why people were hyping this year's D so much and am not surprised it's not living up to the press clippings so far. It was mediocre last year and there wasn't much change except Bradley left. Granted we are a lot better on D than we were in 2012 and 2013, but the line is well below average and the corners are average at best. LB and safety we're pretty solid but that's it.
I will say I think Worley could be a good player, but he needs to be a safety not a corner. He isn't agile and coordinated enough to be a good corner. Even when he's in the right spot, he's almost always off balance and/or facing the wrong direction. I get the put your best athletes on the field philosophy and we have (had) Joseph and Dillon already at safety and as we saw in the Baylor game the other options at CB are no better than Worley.
It was really Gibby's fault the way Coleman scorched us. Clearly, Gibby saw on the first 2 series what no one could miss-- that Worley did not have a prayer of covering Coleman solo man. That his answer to that problem was to then let the 2nd and then 3rd stringer try to do what the starter couldn't is the mistake. Sure, bringing a safety out to help on Coleman opens other things up, but rule 1 in coaching is don't let the other team's best player beat you doing what he does best. Eventually, we caught on to that but it never ceases to amaze me how people who spend their entire lives in football can take longer to figure out the obvious than anyone with a lick of common sense.
