Anybody have one of these? My office is going to buy a few for us and wants to know if I want one. The only guy that I know that has one says its great for "other" stuff like internet, navigation and Goggle Maps, but he can't get phone reception, or drops calls, all over the place.

They're pretty fun to play with, but I have no idea how good they work as far as actually owning one is concerned. If I ever felt the need to spend $500 on a phone, I would definitely get an iPhone.

I went total retro and bought was I was told was the most rugged phone on the market. It looks like a shitty phone and is supposed to be really tough. I broke like 5 razors in a year. I did break the first one I got...but this one has lasted a bit. I don't think I am particularly hard on phones. I use it alot and always have it with me. There is no way I would buy a phone that cant be serviced except for sending it to the factory. My history with cell phones is much to break filled.
I really just want my phone to be a phone. I have an ipod and love it. But I want my phone to be a phone. Bluetooth is the only extra I really want on my phone.

I don't think certain phones drop calls more often, its just the network. If you are in a certain place, AT&T just wont work whether youre on an iphone or an awesome walkman phone like I have.
edit: Iphones will work in Canvas, WV.

I phone's are kick ass to play with. I have no idea of their practicality. The one I played with had a Nintendo emulator.

My phone not only makes calls, but it also has an alarm clock feature.
I use both features pretty regularly.

nah I have the older one. I'll probably upgrade to that one when my rebate comes around. So you have the LP vinal phone. I hear the sound quality is great but the music often skips when the phone, when clipped to my belt, bangs off of the outside of my knee. Once they get that fixed, I'll buy one off of ebay

So my original Iphone "ringer / silent" switch went bad. It was stuck on silent and I couldn't toggle back and forth. When I purchased the phone, I bought the extended Icare plan, which gave me an extra year of warranty. I contacted the customer service and they determined that the problem couldn't be fixed, so they sent me a new phone and I returned the old one. The new phone SUCKS. I have to hard reboot it about 3 times per day, and I was planning on sending this one back.
So, tonight, I get an email from Apple that says their techs have determined that my old phone was damaged and that they are billing my credit card $200 plus tax because the phone was out of warranty. Essentially, they are making my pay for a new phone, which doesn't even work. I've never dropped the phone or anything. Actually, it was a great phone compared to other Iphones that I've heard about. It was great until this problem.
I called the customer service again tonight and was informed that the person I was talking to doesn't have authorization to waive the fee and there was nothing he could do. He says I should call back tomorrow and speak with a "manager". First, I can't believe they don't have a manager there during all business hours. Second, I'm going to put my foot in somebody's ass tomorrow when I get to speak to a manager. I smell a Consumer Protection Complaint coming.
Trad....want to represent me? Consumer protection cases are fee shifting cases. I / we are going to own that company when I'm done with them!!
Actually, I'm sure that my agreement has a venue clause that I agree to subject myself to suit in Washington, but I'm still going to file it here and make them hire some attorney in WV to remove the case to Federal Court and then file the motion to dismiss. That should cost them more than the $200 they want to charge me.

Interestingly enough, I'm thinking about buying an iPhone here soon. The monsoon Saturday night before the game has fucked up my cell phone, and it now restarts itself every time I send a text or hang it up. It still technically works, but I can't see it lasting a lot longer. I was looking at the Pre, but Sprint doesn't have 3G in Frederick yet, while AT&T does. Also I can take my number to AT&T. I can get a 16GB iPhone 3GS for $200 with a two-year service agreement. Not so bad. We'll see.

I just got off the phone with Kurt Wahlstrom of Cupertino, Ca., a technical manager for Apple. He asked by I demanded his full name and work address, and I told him that I needed to know what individual to name in the suit (I won't, but it was fun).
Kurt informed me that the litmus indicator on my phone was tripped. I argued that that had to be impossible because the phone has never had more exposure than sweat or using it in a light rain. He disagreed and I said "Kurt....are you calling me a liar. I record all my conversations and I'll have your ass in court in WV for calling me a liar" (again, not gonna happen but still fun). Kurt said "oh no sir" and recanted.
So, I then asked that they send me my old phone, and I would return the new one, and there would be no reason to charge me the $200. I told him I would just buy a Blackberry or something.
Kurt - We can't return the phone. Drew - What? Why not? Where in your manual does it specify that you can't return the phone Kurt - Well, it doesn't, but when a phone is water damaged, it really isn't much good to us any more so we get rid of it Drew - So you're telling me that you just "got rid of the phone". Some pimple faced computer geek line worker in California opened my phone, said it was 'damaged' and then got rid of it? And I can't get the phone to confirm this for myself or have an expert look at the phone or anything. I'm simply supposed to trust you guys and then pay $200. That's the way Apple works.
Kurt - uh, yes sir Drew - And I thought you guys were smart. You pay people to think shit up. You probably have people backing them up, just think shit up. Kurt - laughs Drew - This doesn't look good for you Kurt. I mean, pretty much every aspect of Consumer Protection and Commercial Code law requires you to secure the product in dispute so it can be examined by the disputing party. Kurt - I understand. Uh, I can't help you anymore. Here's the number to our corporate office and legal department. Here's your case Id. Sorry Drew - Keep grinding kid!!
So that was a fun conversation. Looks like I now have to fight it out with the corporate guys....or, possibly, actually file a small claims UCC action. I mean, they didn't even keep the phone for me to have inspected. I'm just supposed to believe their bullshit and pay them $200. I ain't going down like that.
