Not my favorite tennis tournament. I'm not a clay court fan. Still some good tennis will be played. Roger Federer is skipping the French to focus on Wimbledon and the US Open later in the year. Can't really blame him as Raphael Nadal is usually deadly on clay anyway.
Women's side is wide open as the #1 seed lost today. Serena Williams is not as good on clay as the other surfaces, but still has to be considered a factor.
Usually this tournament is won by some no-name who is a clay court specialist...

Once again...not my favorite tournament.
On the Men's side it's usually the Rafael Nadal Invitational and this year proves no different. Same story...
Nadal beats Federer to go to the finals against the winner of Djokovic/Thiem. Nadal will win because...clay. Clay court tennis sucks.
On the Women's side it's 2 women I've never heard of playing for the championship. Clay court tennis usually has people who you never hear from again because clay is specialized. Whoever Barty and Vondrousova are will play.
After this comes Wimbledon. I like that one better. Grass court tennis plus stiff Royals in attendance.
After Wimbledon comes hard court season. Fast paced tennis and much more interesting. This will lead up to the US Open in August, which is by far the best tournament of the year.

It’s a shame that such a wonderful thread will go unnoticed again this year.

On the Women's Side...Ashleigh Barty from Australia defeated Merketa Vondrousova in straight sets (6-1 & 6/3) to win her first major. Once again...probably will not win another event as she is a "clay court specialist". On the Men's Side, Rafael Nadal defeated Dominic Thiem (6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1) to win his 9,427th French Open. They probably need to name the stadium after him.
