Kreskin?Clearly, Holgorsen has upgraded recruiting at West Virginia to fit the Big 12 style, a truth perhaps masked somewhat by the Mountaineers’ 16-21 league record before this season in four years as a member of the conference. But they’re 3-0 in Big 12 play this year, bolstered by a defense that returned just three starters and lost safety Dravon Askew-Henry to a knee injury in August. West Virginia lost 40-10 last year at TCU. Last week, it beat the Horned Frogs 34-10. “Ten points,” freshman linebacker David Long said, “I really think it should have been zero points.” Holgorsen and defensive coordinator Tony Gibby filled the defensive gaps with six new starters who served as important backups last year, including standout cornerback Rasul Douglas. And to complete a rebuilt secondary that leads the Big 12 in defensive QBR, Antonio Crawford and Maurice Fleming came as transfers from Miami and Iowa, respectively; Elijah Battle and Kyzir White have also started right away out of junior college.
