The only major I don't like is the French Open. I love Wimbledon. Grass court tennis is fun to watch, as it requires a lot of shot making ability and skill rather than just sheer raw power like in the Aussie and the US Open.
Djokovic is making short work of his first round opponent (a Brit no less)...
Required summertime TV viewing for me...

Didn't the UK vote to expel tennis players last week? Only the French players. They had already surrendered anyway...

Isn't tennis for fags?

Why is it a man can build 1,000 houses and yet never be called a carpenter, but a man watches tennis and is a fag?

Very good match on now. There's been a lot of rain in England over the past few days so the tournament is running behind.
Sam Querry (USA) is up 2 sets to 1 on World #1 Novak Djokovic. They are on day #2 in this match & the American is a huge underdog.

And it's over...
Yesterday Serena Williams dispatched Angelique Kerber in straight sets to capture her 22nd Grand Slam title.
This morning, Andy Murray dominated Milos Raonic in straight sets. Murray, a Brit, has now won 2 Wimbledon titles.
Now there will be a lull in the action until the best tournament by far in the world...the US Open!
Mark your calendars for August 29-September 11. Even if you don't watch much (or any) tennis, watch the night matches. Those usually are VERY raucous and very entertaining.

Raucous? Do they get to beat each other over the head with their rackets? This IS New York, after all.

Raucous? Do they get to beat each other over the head with their rackets? This IS New York, after all. Dang close. It has the feel of a rock concert at times. The crowd is very into the matches and usually the players get the crowds worked up into it as well. It's a very entertaining matches...see below from a match a couple of years ago. NEW YORK—The other morning, in midtown Manhattan, two gents were having a disagreement. There were words. The first man remonstrated with the second. You can’t do that, he said — whatever “that” was. This is America! “This ain’t America,” the second man replied, almost reasonably. “This is New York.” And that exchange rather neatly summarizes the attitude at the U.S. Open. Here, we do things our way. “Each Grand Slam certainly takes on a lot of the flavour and atmosphere of its host city,” says David Brewer, the U.S Open tournament director. “So Melbourne is very laid back, very friendly, very open, calm. Paris, Roland Garros, very chic. London, restrained — shall we say — and this is New York. “And we’re loud, and we’re rowdy, and we enjoy things. So I think that’s where you start.” How rowdy? In 2010, a fight broke out in the upper reaches of Arthur Ashe Stadium, and as all things now are, it was caught on video. (It still lives on the Internet. “That’s a little excitement here at the U.S. Open, my friends,” the man shooting the scene says at the end of the clip. “We’re gonna be on YouTube. I got the whole escapade!”) That’s obviously an extreme example. But fans expecting to attend this tournament and experience tennis in cathedral-like conditions should adjust their expectations: think raucous, not reverential. Fans can be boisterous, vociferous, and occasionally hilarious. There’s almost no point in the chair umpire asking for quiet — at times, silence seems an impossible dream. “It doesn’t fit the tennis atmosphere that we are normally used to,” agrees Mike Tirico, who has anchored ESPN’s coverage of the tournament for five years, but has been coming to the Open since he was a kid growing up in Queens. “It’s the party atmosphere. It’s the corporate atmosphere, too, with the folks in the suites who are entertaining clients, so there’s that constant buzz of conversation going on in the stadium. “At Wimbledon, you’re almost afraid to raise your voice out of respect to the past, and insulting the people who are presently next to you,” Tirico adds. “Here, you have to raise your voice to be heard by the person next to you. It’s that constant murmur of conversation.”

Is Wimbledon the same as Wimbleton?

It's the British spelling. Just like the stories of the guy who went all GTA last night in France - The Sun was calling baby strollers "pushchairs".

Though properly called "The Championships, Wimbledon", depending on sources the event is also known as "The All England Lawn Tennis Championships", "The Wimbledon Championships" or simply "Wimbledon". From 1912 to 1924, the tournament was recognized by the International Lawn Tennis Federation as the "World Grass Court Championships".

Wimbledon is on. Y'all should watch it. Some 15-year-old girl from the USA is tearing it up. She beat Venus Williams in her first match. Her name is Coco Gauff and if she wins today (she's in a dogfight now) she will make it to the 4th round. Also on the Women's side...Serena is still alive and playing. So is Sloane Stevens from the US. Stay tuned...
On the Men's side it's the usual suspects...Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, et. al. Some unknown American named Reilly Opelka upset Stan Warwrinka which it cool.
Good tennis. I'll watch a bunch this weekend.

Doesn’t that USA girl have a tie to WV? Doesn't virtually every story have a WV tie-in? Yes, Coco's Great Uncle is the HFBC at Greenbrier East HS. Which now brings me to our Wimbledon update... The Women's Quarterfinals is now set and unfortunately Coco was defeated today in straight sets by Simona Halep. She's a pretty good layer and is always tough in the majors. Still a great showing by Coco and she's made WV proud! Serena Williams is playing another American, Alison Riske in the Quarters. She upset the #1 seed Ashleigh Barty today. The rest of the Quarterfinals are players you really don't care about. One Brit remaining, which makes the Queen happy... The Men's Quarterfinals are now set as well with Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer all playing. Djokovic has the better path to the finals, as Nadal and Federer would have to face each other to get to the finals. Good tennis so far. Been fun to watch...

Wimbledon Update!!!
Wow! If you missed the Men's Final on Sunday, you missed a helluva match!
Djokovic defeated Federer (7-6, 1-6, 7-6, 4-6, 13-12). That's right...3 of the 5 sets went to tiebreaker, including an epic 5th set that went all the way to 25 games PLUS a tiebreaker! I love watching these guys play (and Nadal too). They play tennis the right way...serve, volley, and they shape shots. It's not just the ground-n-pound of some players, which IMHO is very boring.
Long rally's. Great shots. Maximum effort for over 5 hours.
Now...onto the best tournament there is, the US Open in late August!
