Tough road game today. Tubby Smith is a great coach and he's starting to get his team together. Hopefully today we can make some shots and get a road win to make up for that ugly home loss to Texas.
Gametime is 1pm on ESPN News...

We are much better than this Texas Tech team, yet we are trailing. We started with such energy and built a nice lead, but now it's evaporated and we are losing by 2.
Of course, they've changed to playing a zone and we are clueless as to how to attack it. We will start chucking up 3's and we all know what the result of that is...

And of course we foul every trip down and they are shooting 100% from the line. We however are hanging in there at 50%.

They really aren't good indeed...but they can shoot free throws and we can't. We've fiven them 19 points via the charity stripe.
To be down 3 at the half and to basically played without most of our starters for the first half...maybe if we can stay out of foul trouble?
Sorry, I tried to type that last part with a straight face...we're going to foul the shit out of them, even when we don't!

Stick a fork in us...we are done.
No production from either Carter (4 points) or Williams (5 points) for 3 straight games.
Teams pack a zone on us & we can't shoot the ball
We foul too much and turn the ball over more than we take it away
TTU: 28-30 free throws WVU: 19-25 free throws
Turnovers are even
Recipe for a road loss...

We win, apparently. Maybe Randy going negative is our good luck charm.

We absolutely stole that win - there was no reason we should have been victorious.
My disturbing trend this season is how teams all of a sudden shoot lights out from the line against us. How many times this year have teams set a season high in our games? TT normally shoots 73%, today it's 94%. I don't recall the exact games but it's happened at least 3 or 4 other times already. This is just as bad as all those times we've knocked a starting QB out of the game and his backup throws for 500 yards.

The Texas Rangers should arrest us as we leave the arena...we flat-out stole that one.
I agree we have problems shooting, because we have all year and we thrive on offensive rebounds/turnovers, but our woes go deeper than that. 1) We cannot continue to win games with only 9 points production from Williams and Carter COMBINED! Now, that leads me to my next issue which is...
B) Fouls. Do we play rough and do we commit silly fouls? Yes and that is an issue. However, I think the larger issue is that referees now call our games based off of our "reputation" as a "dirty, fouling" team. I watch games and I see players getting away with pushing off while driving, creating contact, etc while we get whistled for 5 fouls coming out of the locker room.
iii) We must learn to make free throws. I heard a stat from Yogi today on his show: "I have a guard (which is Carter) who averaged over 90% on free throws in non-conference play and now that the conference play has started, his average is around 40%". What's up with that?
So there are reasons we struggle, but yet we are still 16-3/5-2 in the toughest conference in the land.
Imagine this...Imagine if Carter & Williams started producing again, along with the production we are getting from our bench in Page and Phillip, adding that Holton continues to add 13 points and 8-9 rebounds along with great defense, then pick up one or two other contributors between Ahmad/Macon/Miles/Adrian...we'd be an even better team than we are!
So...there are 12 games remaining. It's conceivable that we can go 8-4 the rest of the way and finish at a VERY respectable 24-7 (12-6 conference). But what happens if late in the season we start hitting on all cylinders? The things I have referred to above happen? We get hot. This team has Final Four potential, but also has one-and-done potential too.
Love to watch them. Very optimistic fan I am. five me heartburn a lot. Will be interesting to see...
