espn.go.com/blog/big12/post/_/id/105717/why-tcu-has-thrived-and-west-virginia-has-not-in-the-big-12Holgorsen admitted in August that as an inexperienced head coach he was initially too focused on the offensive side of the ball, where he had cut his teeth as an offensive coordinator. Since promoting Tony Gibby to defensive coordinator and re-installing the 3-3-5, the Mountaineers have closed the gap defensively the past two years. Quarterbacking Over the past two seasons, Trevone Boykin has been the best quarterback in college football. That has been TCU’s biggest advantage. "I’m tired of seeing Boykin, I know that," Holgorsen said. The Mountaineers have enjoyed good quarterbacking at times. But they have also had multiple starting quarterbacks in four years: Geno Smith in Year 1; Paul Millard, Ford Childress and Clint Trickett in Year 2; Trickett and Skyler Howard in Year 3; and Howard in Year 4. Only Smith finished ranked in the top half of the Big 12 in QBR (Howard is seventh at the moment this season).

Because we have a coach who sucks and can't recruit and are competing against schools which are all located in fertile recruiting grounds so even if they have coaches who suck and are also bad at recruiting they still can't walk from their cars to their stadiums without tripping over prospects?
I mean, having inferior talent and inferior coaching will probably lead to inferior results a fair amount of the time.

Because TCU is literally located in a position to directly benefit from struggles at Texas and Oklahoma in terms of recruiting and other resources? Whereas WVU is still located in the middle of fucking nowhere, except even more in the middle of nowhere than before because we play so far away now...have to convince kids in our "recruiting areas" to spurn regional powers to come to morgantown, hundreds or thousands of miles from home so that they can play in texas, thousands of miles further away from home against kids and schools whom they had no connections with growing up?

Because even if the runway at the airport in Morgantown was long enough to accommodate real planes, there would still not be any commercial flights of any significant note flying in and out of the place, making WVU feel even more disconnected from recruiting areas and the Big 12 core than we would be otherwise?
Because TCU was peaking when they joined the conference and its fans were on board whereas WVU was floundering and just hoping for a lifeline and the fans have lost more and more interest each year?
Mostly, I guess, its just because WVU sucks.

The players suck, the coaches suck, the fans suck. The recruiting area sucks. Everything sucks.
Although, WVU is supremely dominant in Big 12 women's soccer.

Oh, I am among the suckiest of the fans who suck. No doubt. I wouldn't pay in either money or time to attend a WVU football contest. Living in Morgantown, I mostly regard WVU home games are annoyances...and they aren't even really that bad.

In Simpsons parlance we clearly aren't Lisa Simpson, Martin Prince, nor Database. We're also not Ralph Wiggum or Milhouse Van Houten. Not Nelson, Jimbo, or Kearney. Maybe we're Uter.

I had to google Database from simpsons thinking I'd be like "Oh that guy" just not recognizing the name.
I have no idea who this is, and the wiki didn't come up with anything familiar sounding.
I really thought I was a simpsons fan...guess it's more like how I'm a wvu fan since holgy took over.
Layers upon layers folks.

I am wearing a WVU polo shirt today, though. And those weird arm sleeve things with WVU crap all over them. And a WVU hat. And I put my baby in a WVU onesie before taking him to daycare.
I am more of an internet wuss than a real life wuss, I think.

Oh my yes. They are in like season 28 or something insane.
New episodes Sundays on Fox. They are alright.
FX runs like 16 hours of the Simpsons five days per week.

And the FXNow app lets you see any Simpsons episode ever, whenever you want. The newer episodes are just OK, but it's still better than the Trumpial coverage.
I haven't showered since Tuesday morning, but when I Finau-ly do I have a clean WVU Nike shirt to put on.

I am pretty sure I watched the Simpsons a few times in 1990. Maybe 1989.
Its not that I am not interested in cartoons. Just that particular one.
South Park makes me laugh as does Family Guy.

Am I the only one who would rather see the big 12 miss the playoff again?
Obviously wvu isnt going....so fuck the rest of them.
From a practical standpoint, the other big12 teams dont need "made the playoff" or "won the nc" to help them recruit even better.
From a fuck 'em perspective: fuck 'em.

Possibly? I know I don't. Until my dying breath I will always spit venom at the ACC, who started this whole realignment crap that led to us playing Iowa State every year. The only consolation I have is that the other Big East teams suck there too. If their league champ went 7-5 from here to eternity I'd die a happy man.
And the SEC. I would laugh my ass off at those smug fuckers whenever they would miss.

It helps us if we're in a better league. I do not think that it helps make WVU more competitive within the Big 12 if other Big 12 teams win the national championship. I think that would make WVU less competitive within the Big 12. I think that the Big 12 getting shut out of the playoff again could help move the other teams' recruiting down some, closer to our level, but another team winning the playoff will not help WVU recruit any better. Although, maybe if a team wins the playoff, their coach will go to the NFL and all of their players will declare for the draft and maybe there will be one or two down years for them which WVU could use to steal a win in the conference to maybe finish better than 9th....so I guess that could be neat.

TheRealDudeofWV
I'm a fan of Dana Holgorsen. But I'm not sure he's the "right guy" to lead WVU. Sometimes I wonder if he's not better suited for the NFL. Last Thursday, 6 hours prior to the TCU game, I received an email from a trusted source at WVU in response to an email I sent inquiring about Holgorsen's job status. I was certain Holgorsen was safe. He's not - far from it. If WVU doesn't win 8 games he will be fired at the conclusion of the season. Dr. E. Gordon Gee has been displeased with the direction of the Mountaineer football program. He's feels as if the program hasn't improved. I wrote back asking what was wrong with the program that displeased Dr. Gee and Shane Lyons so much. "What's right with the program?" He asked me. He wrote: "Just as fair to wonder what's right with the program. On pace for another 7-6 or worse and no more than five Big 12 wins. All this talk about promise and talent and the like, but what's it actually yielded? More importantly, what's assuring anyone there's a 10-win team on this roster? TCU's totally reinvented itself in the same league in 15 months. (Texas recruits, I get that, but we're talking a total offensive overhaul and attrition on defense worse than WVU's.)" That was before the TCU and before Frank Beamer announced his retirement. There is a faction within WVU that desperately wants Rich Rodriguez to return. That faction, lead by board member David Alvarez, boasts as members WVU's most generous benefactors including Ike Morris and Ken Kendrick. They want Rich back at WVU. But last night a contact who is a member of that Rich Rod faction wrote me that Rich had agreed to leave Arizona for VT. They were lobbying Gee/Lyons to act now to get out in front of VT and snatch Rich away from them before it's too late. Their fear is that Dana will drag it out and have a chance to win 8 with a bowl win. Say WVU loses the bowl game and Dana only has 7 wins. Is it too late to hire Rich? The other problem is that it seems that both WVU and VT have the same names at the top of their list. Rich and Butch Jones. I don't want to debate why Butch would want to leave Tenn for either WVU or VT. I don't know why. But what I know is that both Rich and Butch have expressed interest through "their people". So what happens if Dana is fired and both Rich and Butch are unavailable? If that happens WVU will do a national search and pick a coach with a proven track record. They will not hire a coordinator. Dr. Gee will consult with both Urban Meyer and Jim Tressel about candidates and I'm certain Shane Lyons will talk to Nick Saban but Rich is #1 on their list and Butch is #2. One other thing...a few credible sources believe that Lyons is looking for reasons to fire Dana. One even said Dana isn't making that too hard.
