I am not hopeful that I will be able to get my truck to pass inspection when the sticker runs out in November, so I having to replace it.
This is simultaneously a half joking post since this was the official VBL tailgate machine...but I really am looking to see what I can get for it....not that I expect anyone here to be in the market for a POS truck...but this is as good of a place as any to start. The extended cab 4.3L V6 S10 has 191,000+ miles, but the engine runs great.
Its an Automatic Transmission, and has 4-Hi and 4-Lo 4WD that work great. Had to have the 4WD overhauled about two years ago, works like new now.
The passenger side window has been busted out (happened recently...football tailgate related...exact cause unknown).
The Driver sideview mirror is cracked and taped on.
The Right front blinker casing is missing, and there is a piece missing from the headlight housing on that side.
There is a wicked rattle int he exhaust somewhere.
The rear bumper is held together with duct tape.
There are a lot of wiring issues. Failure to be gentle with things plugged into the cigarette lighter will lead to large scale fuse blowouts, for instance.
Fair amount of rust damage on the body, and the metal is crumbling around the tire wells....and its getting harder to cover it with tape and shitty blue and yellow paint.
The gas gauge doesnt really work....have to go by mileage for that. The AC works great...but the front vents dont come on anymore, just comes out the top and bottom vents normally reserved for heat.
The alternator is a year old, the tires are like new, the shocks are less than a year old, there are several other parts in there that have been recently replaced (within the last three years).
I am going to see if I cant tear it apart and sell it for parts to someone, maybe, actually. But it seems like an awful shame, since the engine really does run great, even if it only gets about 15 MPG.
Is an awesome tailgate machine, and would be a great truck for 'farm use,' as I think it has a lot of miles left in it, if properly taken care of...even it those miles wont be street legal.

I forgot I posted this here....um, well, the asking price is fairly low.
I have yet to figure out what exactly its worth...less than a grand, I would imagine.
It is really going to be the most valuable to someone who needs s10 parts.....or someone who can use a small truck for farm use.
I am hoping to get 800 bucks out of it. If I cant get something decent, I figure I can just find a place to stash it and wait till I move back to charleston and have the property there to use something like that.

I've never seen a vehicle advertised for sale without the model year. Of course, it's not like it matters...age is in the eye of the beholder...and the mileage is certainely more important than the actual age. However, if someone should want it for parts, the model year is important.
My suggestion is to watch for one of those, "Tow it in - push it in and we'll five you $1000 regardless of condition" ads.

I didn't realize I forgot to put the year in there. Its a 1992.
Of course, I never expected anyone here to be interested in buying it...this was more of a practice run to organize my thoughts on the thing.
I have a couple of friends who each have similar model year S10s, I am trying to get them to five me a couple of bucks for.
When I get the time, I am going to try to take it down to a salvage yard and try to get whatever I can from it.

You may end up paying them, I had to junk a car a few years ago and we called it even because there was a new battery installed.
They wanted like $45.00 to come and get it...
Clean it up, focus on the positives and put an ad in the paper.
Really your best bet.

Yeah, it does run great, though. I wont have to pay anyone to tow it away, because I could drive it to them.
The problem is not that the truck won't run anymore, its that it is becoming too expensive to keep it street legal.
If I cant get something like $500 for it, I will just go park it behind my grandfather's garage in Kanawha County and wait until I move back down there where I can use a 'farm use' truck. ...of course, by then I do hope to have traded in this rockin' mini-van and bought a new truck for myself...hope to do that soon, actually.... so Idunno.
Its not that I want or need to part with the truck...I just don't really need it anymore and might as well see what I can get for it.

If I cant get something like $500 for it, the longer this thread goes, the cheaper the sale price will be

Yeah, at this point, I just realized that I am not going to be able to keep it because I dont have anywhere to put it....so my "well, if I dont get close to 800 for it, I'll just keep it" isnt realistic. ..besides, it looks like I am likely to get a Ford Ranger from work, so at least theres that.

It's got 4 bids and the price has increased $12.50. I foresee this thing getting really hot toward the end of the auction

The bidding made it to $511...and I got an email telling me a guy would come and hand me $525 cash for it today or tomorrow. Which is fine by me.
We will see if it actually happens, but that would be awesome.

I just heard, the guy that bought Matt's truck is the guy who developed Morganeers! Matt's truck is going to be tailgate central for the Morganeers.com crowd.
You unwittingly killed our momentum!

That's good. Now all their posters will have a shelter to sit in if it rains during tailgating

Maybe they will leave all their beers in coolers in the bed of Matt's truck and we can go steal them during the game.

Post by matt on Oct 29, 2008 18:45:56 GMT -5
I just put it in the bank...but it will totally cover the flight, hotel and drinking for my new orleans trip this weekend.
....also went ahead and booked a flight to Dublin over New Years...but that is more related to my recent raise than to the truck sale...although if I just count the New Orleans plane ticket and the Dublin plane ticket, the 500 would cover both...so whatever.

The real question is what vehicle did you buy and when is it scheduled to get painted blue and gold?

ha. I am driving a 2002 Dodge Caravan now.
Not going to be painted until its all rusted and fucked up like the S10 was.
....I was going to buy a truck...but I am at least being told that I will maybe end up with a company truck sometime in the next couple of months...so I wanted to wait on that.
