www.wimp.com/functionaltools/I would assume the issue is cost...probably cost like $500 in materials and energy to make that thing... at least I hope there's a flaw, otherwise we're all going to be replaced soon

That's pretty cool. I'd like to know how long the process actually takes. Toward the end of the video they said "and hour and a half ago" but I'd be surprised if it only took that long to scan, develope, and "print".

That's pretty cool. I am wondering how the scanner picks up the inner workings of the moving parts of the wrench.
Get back to me when it can serve me a hot cup of Earl Grey, though.

Yeah, wrong board to the max.
Also, there was some sort of something almost like this years ago that I saw somewhere. ... I think it was presented as a Fax Machine that you could scan in an object (some widget piece or something) and fax the info anywhere in the world and it would "print" a model of it using some sort of glue and resin. It wouldnt make "functional" tools or anything... just 3d objects....
Anyway, neato.

Man the mods are on top of things on this board. That's what makes this one of the best sites on the internet.

I'm beginning to think maybe this thread wasn't on the wrong board after all.

Hopefully the plans will be available in the back of a Popular Mechanics magazine.
I'll get right on it after my hovercraft and I finish that Sally Struthers Locksmith course.

Right, a message board full of people who don't get a Star Trek reference. That's believable.

Between this scanner and the InfraChef, I feel like we've leaped forward through about 25 years of technology in just a few days.
