I have a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop running Windows XP. Installed and working well for years has been a Dell Wireless 1490 Dual band WLAN Mini-card, apparently manufactured by Broadcom. Recently the wireless card has stopped working, giving me a status of "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" I have tried restarting the computer several times, and tried uninstalling and re-installing the device, to no avail.
Do any of you guys now what "code 10" mean and is there any way I can fix this on my own?

I got this from the Microsoft website.
Code 10
If the device has a FailReasonString value in its hardware key, that string is displayed as the error message. The driver or enumerator puts this registry string value there. If there is no FailReasonString in the hardware key, you receive the following error message: This device cannot start. (Code 10) Recommended resolutions
Here are some things that you can try to resolve this problem.
Update the driver
In the device Properties dialog box, click the Driver tab, and then click Update Driver to start the Hardware Update Wizard. Follow the instructions to update the driver.
You may be prompted to provide the path of the driver. Windows may have the driver built-in, or may still have the driver files installed from the last time that you set up the device. If you are asked for the driver and you do not have it, you can try to download the latest driver from the hardware vendor’s Web site.

Yeah, ok. I already tried that...it cant find any updates for the driver, and I downloaded a new driver update anyway and it didn't help. Idunno. I guess I will try buying a new wireless card.

Well, made it home and turned the laptop back on and the wireless card booted up like normal...or whatever the lingo is to say it worked normally. For now. Whatever.
