The prices are great and with the low prices for removeable media. Seems like an easy choice for a teenager.
Any thoughts?

Wow...not a single reply from Gl, Hammy or Kings.
They must be on a super secret VBL mission...or they're having gay sex.
Your call.

Kids are usually into the pictures and videos and wotnot. The problem with the netbooks is that the really cheap ones have solid state memory. Which really limits their ability to manipulate pictures and music and movies and stuff.
Some of the new ones are coming with hard drives, which would make them better.
I might get my daughter one this spring.

Personally, I think the Netbook fad is overrated. Compared to traditional 12 inch notebooks the netbook chip is slower, the OS is scripped down, the keyboards & screens are miniatures, the storage sux (smaller solid state drives or flash memory & no optical drive), and as far as I can tell you're stuck with the programs that come on the OEM configuration. I just saw a 8.9 inch Asus with a 160Gb drive for 294 on Amazon, but I can buy a full sized Acer notebook at either Best Buy or Office Depot for 349, and the notebook comes with an optical drive for installing needed programs.
They might be good for someone who doesn't require a lot of computing ability or are light users overall, but I personally don't see the overall value anymore. When they came out there was a niche market for the unique product, but now they're just overpriced, scripped down laptops.

I thought about a Netbook for keeping in touch with the fam but ended up going with a traditional notebook. So how does this post look on my new laptop? It was fast wasn't it! What I just bought: HP Pav dv5-1235dx Got two of them, a wireless network for home, two bags, wireless mouses, and Norton 360 for $1600 from BestBuy.
