Do you have some sort of RCA input for your computer? Or does your DVR have a 15 pin VGA?

Without having a direct connection between your DVR box and your PC, the next way I can think of is to use a device in the middle. I use my DVD burner and rip the burn to my PC, but you can also get digital converter hardware (like Dazzle, which I hear conflicting reports about) to play the DVR material and convert/record it to a PC/laptop.

Or you just torrent the show your kid wants.

What you need is an SRP 37 hot-swap module.

I was thinking of trying to use a firewire, but haven't gotten too detailed in it yet to plan it out or even look for all connections.

You can probably play your DVR show into a Firewire connected device, then connect it to your PC's firewire port and transfer.

Don't most DVRs have a USB port? Is there some reason you couldn't just download through that to an external hard drive or thumb drive and then upload from that device on to a hard drive?

Many DVR boxes provided by cable/satellite services don't come with the USB activated, and most are loathe to activate it. Also, most DVRs encrypt the recordings with proprietary keys so pulling out the hard drive to dump it on a PC is a worthless endeavor. It decrypts as it plays, so a streaming capture device to grab the unencrypted playback is usually the best option.

Like driving through a old lady's bedroom? Fuck that, I got P'Ta Mon on retainer now, so I have advised her to remove all rims, tints and take out her gold teeth.

Probably a good decision. I figure P'Ta Mon will associate well with an Elkins jury.
