I was just reading an article on Yahoo talking about a $100 price drop on the PS3 next month. I have been debating on upgrading to an Xbox 360 or PS3. I like first person shooters (Medal of Honor type) and NCAA football. Other than that I really do not play anything else. I take my PS2 on the road and use it in my hotel rooms to watch DVD's and play NCAA Football.
What do you guys think? Which one should I get? Think travel, gaming, and price. What is the right system for me?

360, the ps3 really is a very poor system this generation.

Which one is also a BlueRay DVD player? Because, I'll probably use it more for that than the gaming.

then do yourself a favor and buy a blu ray player. The ps3 has one, but that's like buying that peanutbutterjelly in the same jar when you only want the peanut butter.
The PS3 is just not a quality gaming system. It does have a good blu ray player in it though, but I can't imagine buying it for that purpose alone.

Well if you want both either way, and the Blu Ray is more important than the gaming, it would be stupid not to buy the PS3. He didn't say he only wants the peanut butter. If you want both, buy the PS3. Or you could be a moron and pay more money.

Yeah....I'm really not into gaming and I don't think that I will every be. However, I would like to have one to play around with when there is nothing on TV or the family is out of town. That's why I figured the one with the BlueRay, because I'll pay just as much for a decent BlueRay player, so why not get a gaming system at the same time.

I have all 3...and never use the PS3 for anything but movies, maybe the occasional game. I am still a fan of the 360

So I can get a Blu-Ray and the cheapest available 360 for the price of the normal PS3. Why would I do that? Dude, I take no issue with your contention that the 360 is a better system, but for someone who is only an occasional gamer, I really don't think they're going to notice the differences between the systems that you notice. For someone who isn't that into gaming and also wants a Blu-Ray, the best deal is to get a PS3.

For someone who isn't that into gaming and also wants a Blu-Ray, the best deal is to get a PS3. the cheapest 360 is better than the ps3. This argument is going backwards. If he's a casual "maybe once in a while" gamer, the base 360 is perfect. Why would he need the ps3 which traditionally has weaker multiple console games (the popular football games for example) i'm saying same price: Bluray + 360, or PS3 unless the footprint of having 2 devices is a real concern that you're willing to five up quality for, I don't get how the ps3 is the best here. the base model 360 is a better system than the ps3, period. So what's the problem...if this is simply an argument over footprint, that's fine. But with my option, you get blu ray player AND better quality gaming. Whereas with your option, he gets a blu-ray player and mediocre gaming. Both at the same price

Both at the same price GL, what your argument is missing however is that my brother really could five two shits about playing games except for maybe an hour a week. The reality is, for him the BR player is the deal. Honestly, the BR player in the PS3 is very top of the line, it is also one of the only players that has continious firmware upgrades and is network accessible. The cheaper BR players often only support the older formates, without a mail in firmware upgrade, they take a while to load up the movies, and for the most part don't support the full 1080p and advanced digital audio capabilities that your highend BR players offer. Truth is, for Drew the best choice would be the PS3, he gets a top of the line BR player, that will be supported for the forseeable future, and also has a console that he can play the occassional game on.

Plus, I could take a PS3 anywhere I go and have the BlueRay and a gaming system all in one. That way I wouldn't have to take two devices....not that I would do that anyway.
I may actually just purchase an Atari.....that shit was awesome

like i said, if the footprint of 2 devices bugs you, then of course the ps3 is the way to go. But if you want a blu-ray, i'm sure you can find one just as good as the ps3 one and a 360 for the same price. If you really don't plan on playing a game very often it doesn't really matter, but other than footprint of having 2 devices, i still think the combo is better. If the ps3 is your choice rock on, but when other people laugh at you and call you names, don't come crying to me
